Recently a video surfaced on the internet in which the dead body of a boy floating in the gushing waters of Aharbal sent chills through the spine. This was not a mere accident but a voluntary choice made by the broken lad to end his life.
The miseries have shadowed the people of J&K since the onset of armed conflict in which many precious lives were lost and even continue to this day. The trauma of these haunting incidents has shackled the hearts and minds of people which slowly lurk into the abyss of depression and anxiety.
People are now facing immense economic restraints due to the pandemic which has come as a blight to an already devastated land. The hope seems to be dead and no one appears to be concerned to render a panacea for the sufferings of the people of J&K.
The newspapers and internet are replete with such ominous events that have entangled the valley that was known for its scenic beauty, crafts and happy people. But all has changed. Many youths in order to do away with the anxiety are resorting to drug addiction which is a form of slow suicide in the long run.
The government ought to take the cognizance of this developing situation that is eating into the vitals of our society. Counselling centres along with economic & mental support centres need to be established district wise that will monitor the situation and incorporate apposite efforts to rid the society off this vicious trend which is more contagious than the pandemic
