GANDERBAL, Nov 6: As part of its ongoing outreach initiative, the Income Tax Department, Srinagar, on Wednesday organized the second event in its series titled “Tax Talks” at the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Ganderbal campus. The interactive session focused on the theme “Importance of Progressive Taxation” and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and tax officers.
Students from the departments of commerce and finance actively debated the concept of progressive taxation, highlighting its role in ensuring equity, promoting social welfare, and supporting economic growth. The participants who displayed exceptional understanding and analytical skills during the debate were felicitated with prizes by the organizers.
The event was led by Sh. Shakil Ahmad Ganie, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar, along with Sh. Abhineet Jhorar, Income Tax Officer. They were joined by Madam Rifat Qureshi, Deputy Commissioner of Sales Tax, Srinagar. The officers emphasized the crucial role of income tax in national development and underlined the need for voluntary tax compliance as a sign of responsible citizenship.
In their addresses, the officers also stressed the significance of tax education and awareness among youth, noting that informed citizens form the backbone of a transparent and sustainable economy. The outreach initiative, they said, aims to foster tax literacy and encourage constructive dialogue on taxation policies and their impact on society.
Registrar of Central University of Kashmir, Sh. Nisar Ahmad, who was present on the occasion, expressed his gratitude to the Income Tax Department for organizing the event in collaboration with the University. He commended the department’s efforts in creating awareness among students about the nation’s fiscal framework and the importance of civic responsibility in nation-building.
The “Tax Talks” series, officials said, is part of a broader campaign by the Income Tax Department to engage with academic institutions and educate young minds on taxation matters, ensuring a more informed and compliant taxpayer community in the future.
