TRC Taxi Stand prez says unregistered taxi operators fleecing people

Srinagar, Dec 21 : The passengers travelling to and from Srinagar through Srinagar-Jammu highway here have accused the Taxi operators of looting them by charging hefty amount while as the concerned officials are acting as mute spectator.

According to the wire service— passengers travelling to and from Srinagar said that as the airfare is already high, the taxi operators are taking advantage of it and are looting the passengers.

They said that they are being charged Rs 2000 per head, adding that the authorities have failed to take action against them. Passengers said that authorities must intervene and should ensure that proper rates be fixed so that the people here could heave a sigh of relief.

However, the Taxi operators at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) taxi stand here blamed the unregistered taxi operators for looting the people, saying that the Taxi stand has fixed genuine rates, starting from Rs 1100-1300 for different vehicles.

“We don’t charge exorbitant rates from passengers. But the taxi’s who are operating without any registration are charging hefty amount from the passengers, thus causing hardships to them,” Parvez Ahmad, President of Taxi Stand TRC told news agency.

He further stated that they have already taken up the issue with Inspector General (IG) Traffic, Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic, Commissioner, adding that they have assured strict action against these Taxi drivers.

Umar Ahmad, Manager at TRC Taxi Stand said that the unregistered Taxi drivers have already been directed to operate from Pantha Chowk but they don’t pay any heed to the directions. The Taxi operator at TRC Taxi Stand also said that police is hand-in-glove with these drivers and is not taking any action against them. (KNO)
