The Council of 14

Date:

Today in the late afternoon, a list of invitees scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24th of June in an all J&K parties meet was released that stirred up many gossips and even some uncanny speculations.

The list comprised ex-CMs, ex-Deputy CMs and regional Party Chiefs of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting has created much exhilaration and political exergy which can be understood by the fact that no regional party has put down the invitation or laid any pre-conditions for the meeting.

A plethora of interviews of various spokespersons and representatives hailing from different national and regional parties of J&K flooded the news media channels and internet portals the entire day. This is a clear manifestation of their consent and readiness to parley with the Centre after the extensive stagnation of political discourse in J&K.

The sources suggest that the centre is in mood of restoring the statehood to J&K and it will be the dominating topic that will be thoroughly discussed in this much anticipated meeting.

Some of the members of these regional parties had earlier been informed about a partial restoration of Statehood with executive i.e police remaining under the governorate of Central government. However, later on due to some persuasions the full restoration of Statehood has been agreed to be discussed upon.

Pertinently, the governing party at the Centre is going to have much more to do in the rest of the country in 2022 in regards with the elections scheduled in 5 major states. By putting in-charge a democratically elected government in J&K, the Central Government can focus more on the elections in these states, in which king-maker Uttar Pradesh along with Uttarakhand and Punjab are going to have elections in February-March next year.
