Uri : The failure of authorities to ensure the completion of some basic works under Urban Local Bodies Department in Uri town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has evoked strong resentment among the public.

Sources said that in September 2017 the construction work on five seated two toilets was taken up by the department in main town Uri but the work on these toilets remained restricted mere only to raising of four walls.

They further disclosed that the Urban Local Bodies had outsourced the construction of toilets and washrooms to non-government organization”Yougnter” and the central government has also approved thirty lakh rupees to the department under Swachh Bharat Mission scheme.

Traders and locals in main town Uri while expressing concern said that due to non-availability of toilets and washrooms in the town the general public has to face immense hardships.

“Authorities have failed to mitigate the sufferings of common people here. We have failed to understand that there is no accountability as to why the construction of the toilets was left halfway even after passing of a year,” said a trader.

“Two toilets were being constructed one at Sub-district hospital Uri and another at Sumo Stand. But both are incomplete and in pathetic condition since then,” he added.

Executive Engineer Urban Local Bodies Kashmir, Nazir Ahmad said that they are in touch with the eluded non-government organization.

“The organization has the internal problem that’s why they left the work halfway. But they are again taking up the same work within the days,” Ahmad said.
