Violence over a Facebook post; Section 144 imposed in Bengaluru

  • Violence broke out in Pulakeshinagar after an angry mob, disturbed over a derogatory post uploaded on social media by a relative of MLA Akhanda Srinivasa Murthy on Tuesday night, went on rampage.
  • The protestors set many vehicles on fire and surrounded Murthy’s residence.
  • The police used lathi-charge, tear gas, and firing to disperse the violent crowd.
  • DG Halli and KG Halli witnessed violent incidents. Heightened police presence has been put in place.
  • *Several incidents of arson and looting were reported. *
  • *Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC imposed in Bengaluru and curfew imposed in *DG Halli and KG Halli police station limits.*
  • Police Commissioner has ordered deploying City Armed Reserve (CAR), Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons.
  • *Garuda commandos have also been deployed in the area to carry out patrolling along with the law and order and traffic police in *KG Halli and DG Halli police station jurisdiction.*
  • Two persons have died and around 60 police personnel have been injured in the violent clashes.
  • Heightened security measures across Bengaluru can be anticipated. Advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
