Birla School Pampore to handhold visually impaired cricketers

SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Chairman J&K Blind Welfare Trust (BWT) Shokwat Ahmad Lone and his colleagues on Saturday inaugurated a friendly basketball match played between DPS Srinagar & Birla Open Minds School Pampore. DPS Srinagar won this match which was played during the inauguration of a newly constructed volleyball court in the Birla Open Minds School campus Pampore. 

Lone was accompanied by his colleagues Ali Mohammad Bhat and Abid Hussain  Naik. The blind activists appreciated the school management for giving them an honour to inaugurate the Basketball match. The management of Birla Open Minds school Pampore during the event assured the Blind Welfare Trust that they would handhold and support the Blind Cricket teams by providing them with sports kits and uniforms. Chairman of the school management G M Lone said that their school would hold a blind cricket tournament in the school campus soon. During the event several respected citizens and trustees of the school management of the area including  Abdul Aziz Mir ,  Mohammad Shafi Rather, Feroz Gul, Nisar Ahmad Mir and Ghulam Mohiudin Lone were present on the occasion.

“Blind Welfare Trust (BWT) is trying its best to mobilize visually impaired youth so that their talent and skills are explored. We try to provide them a platform wherein they are able to play all sorts of games and enjoy life. BWT is also planning to set up some small scale industrial units where visually impaired youth would be engaged to earn their livelihood especially by making disposable plates, bowls etc from biodegradable material,” said Showkat Ahmad Lone Chairman BWT

Social activist and patron of the Blind Welfare Trust Dr Raja Muzaffar was also present at the event and he also thanked the school management for their support to the visually impaired community of Kashmir.
