Water crisis triggers protest in Sopore

Sopore, Sep 22 : Residents of Saidpora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday hit the roads and staged massive protest against water shortage in the area since months.
Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said that scores of residents including women on Tuesday blocked Sopore-Dangerpora bypass road and registered their protest to highlight water crisis in their area.
Khurshid Ahmad a local resident told Kashmir Despatch over the phone, since two years they are without water and authorities hardly bother to look into this issue.
He said Meer Mohalla Saidpora village in this northern region is worst affected due to the non-availability of water in the village.
He said water crisis has become one of the major issues in this village as despite living in the modern world we do not have access to safe drinking water and clear water for sanitation purpose.
Khurshid added it has become very difficult for the concerned department to provide people with drinking water to maintain their day-to-day routines.
Another resident told this newspaper over the phone , Concerned Jal Shakti department suffered us lot as we residents are suffering for want of single drop of water. He said due to contaminated drinking water many people in the village became ill.
The protestors however threatened to go for bigger protest if this water crisis grievances will not be redressed at earliest.
