Water Tank Defunct in Tral even before Its Inauguration

General Public Demands Strict Action Against engineers and contractors involved in its construction


Srinagar, Nov 19: A water tank constructed at Nawdal Tral 16 years ago at a cost of Rs. 20 lac is defunct even before Its Inauguration. Locals have demanded strict action against the engineers and contractors who were involved in the construction of the tank.
Jal Shakti Department constructed a water tank with a capacity of 40,000 gallon at Nawdal Tral in 2004 to provide clean water to people of Dadsara area. According to the locals, the people had hoped that they would not have to face any difficulty after its completion. However, the hopes of the people were dashed, when the tank was declared inoperable. People say that a part of the concerned tank has leaked and water is being lost from the tank rapidly. People say that they have come to know about this in year 2020 , even though the department had declared it ineffective many years ago, but this matter was kept hidden from the public. Tariq Ah. Wani of Nawdal had voluntarily provided the land to the department.
Membes of Local Auqaf Committee said that work on the water tank was started in the area 16 years ago at a cost of Rs. 2 million, but it became inoperable at the completion of its construction. The people of the area are deprived of pure water.
Locals say that although they had informed the concerned department several times in this regard, they had hidden the fact that the tank was defunct. He said that there was no water supply in Dadsara and Nawdal areas and people are forced for using sewage water. The people demanded the LG administration and senior officials of the concerned department to investigate the matter at the earliest and stern action should be taken against the engineers and contractors who were involved in the construction of the tank.
