Srinagar: Known for his controversial comments, Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Chairman Wasim Rizvi has said that he will commit suicide if Narendra Modi does not come to power.
Rizvi who has been ‘excommunicated from Islam’ for rejecting a fatwa on Babri Masjid by top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Sistani, has announced to self-immolate himself in front of the Ram temple at Ayodhya, if Narendra Modi did not become the Prime Minister of the country again.
In a statement Rizvi said that ‘fanatic Muslims were giving him death threats for supporting Ram Temple and if Mr. Modi loses then he will have no option but to commit suicide.
Earlier in March a case was filed against Rizvi’s sexist comments against Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi by Youth Congress leader Sharad Shukla, Times of India reported. Rizvi has been booked under Sections 354 and 309 of IPC
In 2018, senior Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad announced that Waseem Rizvi had been excommunicated from Islam for rejecting a Fatwa on the Babri Masjid by top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Sistani who is considered a religious authority among Shias around the world.
“A fatwa from Ayatollah Ali Al Sistani cannot be rejected. Anyone who opposes his fatwa has no right to be called a Shia anymore,” Kalbe Jawwad had told the media
