Will not fight assembly elections until Article 370 is restored: Mehbooba Mufti

Date:

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, said on Wednesday that she will not fight assembly elections until Article 370 is restored.

In an interview with Press Trust of India, Mehbooba said, “I am never going to fight assembly elections as long as Article 370 is not restored. It’s more of an emotional issue for me,”

Pertinently,  A delegation of national and regional leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, led by Dr Abdullah, signed a memorandum and submitted it to the CEC earlier this month at Delhi.

“We requested that they hold assembly elections. We asked them why there was a delay in holding elections when the delimitation exercise has been completed and the home minister and others are claiming that normalcy has returned to J&K,” added Dr Abdullah.

He further said Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India Rajiv Kumar and another member have assured there will be assembly elections in J&K ‘soon’.
