Mohammad Abas Rather, a prominent leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and the District Development Council (DDC) member from Qaimoh, has been elected as the State Secretary of CPI(M) for Jammu and Kashmir. His appointment was officially announced following the party’s State Conference, which was held on February 17 and 18 in Jammu.
The State Conference, a crucial event for CPI(M) in the region, brought together senior party leaders and delegates from across Jammu and Kashmir. The gathering provided a platform for extensive discussions on pressing political and socio-economic issues affecting the region. During the conference, party members deliberated on strategies to expand CPI(M)’s influence, address the concerns of the people, and advocate for policies in line with the party’s core ideology.
Following his election, Mohammad Abas Rather addressed the media and expressed deep gratitude to the party’s senior leadership for placing their trust in him. He acknowledged the weight of his new role and underscored his commitment to strengthening the party’s presence across Jammu and Kashmir.
“This position is not just a title; it is a significant responsibility,” Rather said. “I am dedicated to upholding the values and principles of CPI(M) and will work tirelessly to safeguard the rights of the people. The party has entrusted me with this role, and I will ensure that we continue our efforts to address the pressing issues faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
Rather’s election as State Secretary comes at a time when CPI(M) aims to reinforce its political base in the region. The party has historically played an active role in advocating for the rights of workers, farmers, and marginalized communities, and Rather’s leadership is expected to bring renewed focus to these efforts.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move by CPI(M) to consolidate its presence in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in the backdrop of evolving political dynamics in the Union Territory. The party has consistently raised concerns about unemployment, inflation, and governance issues, and Rather’s leadership will likely play a pivotal role in shaping CPI(M)’s stance on key matters affecting the region.
With this new responsibility, Mohammad Abas Rather is set to play a crucial role in mobilizing party workers, engaging with the public, and amplifying CPI(M)’s voice on issues of governance, social justice, and economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
