Srinagar, Apr 23 : Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday morning visited the Police Control Room (PCR) in Srinagar to pay solemn tributes to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Official said that the trio offered floral tributes to the mortal remains of the deceased, which were brought to the PCR after medico-legal formalities.
Soon after the visit, Home Minister Amit Shah, along with LG Sinha, left for Baisaran in Pahalgam, where terrorists had opened fire on a group of civilians—mostly tourists—on Tuesday, resulting in the death of 26 people and injuries to several others.
Security across the Kashmir Valley, particularly in south Kashmir, has been intensified. Aerial surveillance, drone monitoring, and massive deployment of forces have been enforced to ensure no further untoward incidents.
A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir, with all shops, educational institutions, and commercial establishments closed. Roads wore a deserted look in major towns and cities, including Srinagar, as residents mourn the loss.
Officials said a high-level review meeting chaired by Amit Shah late Tuesday night discussed operational strategies and intelligence gaps. Top brass from the army, CRPF, J&K Police, and intelligence agencies attended the meeting.
In Lal Chowk, Srinagar’s commercial hub, locals said the situation resembled a curfew. “There’s an eerie silence. Even essential services have been affected,” a resident said.
The visit of the top leadership to the PCR is being seen as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the victims and their families, as Kashmir comes to grips with one of the deadliest civilian attacks in recent years. (JKNS)
