Anti-Terrorism Day was observed by Sopore police at the main police station on Friday, with teams of police and CRPF personnel taking part in the function enthusiastically.
Due to the pandemic, a simple function was organised at Police Station in Sopore where Station House Officer Sopore Azim Khan read out the preamble to uphold and promote peace, social harmony and understanding among all fellow beings.
Anti-terrorism day is observed throughout the nation on May 21 every year to commemorate the death anniversary of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Pertinently in Kashmir, Mirwaiz Farooq was shot dead on 21 May 1990 and Abdul Ghani Lone was killed on 21 May 2002.
Azim who was heading the teams of police and CRPF said that the objective behind the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day is to wean away the people from terrorism and violence and to generate awareness in the country among all sections of people.
“The day is celebrated to promote peace and harmony among the country men. We appeal our fellow citizens to promote peace and harmony and help police and law enforcement agencies to ensure safety and security of the people. Police is always there with the common masses,” Azim added.
