J.P. Nadda to chair; review preparations

SRINAGAR, Mar 5: Bharatiya Janata Party is scheduled to convene an important ‘in-house meeting’ on March 7th that will be chaired by the party’s national president J.P. Nadda.
Notably, this will be Mr. Nadda’s first visit to Jammu and Kashmir that will specifically focus on the political dynamics of the region and assessment of the requisite preparations of party-cadres for the upcoming elections.
This significant visit comes just after the announcement made by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah last month about holding the Assembly Elections in J&K within a time period of six to eight months.
Nadda will first go to offer obeisance at the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, afterwards chairing a core group meeting at Hotel Welcome, as per the reliable sources in the Party.
It has been also revealed that the Party President shall be meeting at least 100-150 party delegates across J&K who will be present in Jammu on the same day. There are speculations that issues like pre-poll alliance and conferring mandates to party leaders will also be discussed in the meeting.
While talking to Kashmir Despatch, BJP Media Secretary Dr. Pradeep Mahotra said the meeting shall revolve around the present political situation in J&K, functioning of the party cadres, and even discuss Party’s assembly election preparedness.
“The scope of this meeting is wide. As the party president is going to chair the meeting, he will be apprised about a myriad of issues wherein even the matter about impending elections in J&K will be probably taken up as well,” he said.
While BJP is seemingly gearing up for the upcoming elections, PAGD is still trying to debate over the draft proposals of the Delimitation Commission, a political observer in Srinagar commented, while talking to Kashmir Despatch.
PAGD recently e-published a ‘White Paper’ that alleges to expose the unconstitutional mode adopted to scrap the Article-370 besides criticizing the present government in J&K over ‘empty promises’.
However, the appeal of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to the people of J&K asking them to vote for PAGD allies in the upcoming elections was seen as a clear mark that even these dissenting parties are covertly preparing for the elections.
As the Delimitation Commission has been directed to submit its report before May 6th, well placed sources anticipate elections to happen by the end of this year most probably in the months of October-November.
