International Tourist destination Gulmarg all set to host G-20 Events

BARAMULLA, MAY 10 : International tourist resort Gulmarg of Baramulla is all set to welcome tourism delegates from the G-20 nations in the last week of May 2023.

In this regard, the District Administration Baramulla is finalizing all the related arrangements, and the district is undergoing a major makeover amid a stringent security plan for the high-profile event.

It is worth mentioning here that the grand event will have a large impact in the history of Baramulla district and there will be no curbs anywhere while schools, colleges and the markets will remain open.

The traffic on all routes will ply normally and to facilitate the foreign delegates, a proper traffic advisory will be issued in advance.

Welcome boards and signages were erected in Gulmarg. The road to Gulmarg from Srinagar, the Narbal-Gulmarg stretch, is being given a new look.

To enhance the aesthetic value of the existing structures, footpaths and medians have been developed, traffic roads are being furnished, hoardings are installed and government buildings and commercial building walls are being painted in the district.

Meanwhile, all the developmental and beautification works are being supervised by the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar. She has asserted that the stage is set and all preparations are in the final stage.

Dr Sehrish exhorted the departments to push for a double shift of working in all the existing works in a time bound manner.

She emphasized on greater coordination and synergy among line departments for timely completion of developmental activities in Baramulla.

Moreover, the DDC issued instructions to concerned authorities  for grass cutting along roads, routes, footpaths, closing manholes with lids, colour iron grills, making water fountains functional, smooth operation of streets lights, removing of debris and construction material from roads so that the establishments get charm and to boost aesthetics.(KNS)

Police arrests 06 drug peddlers; Contraband substances recovered

Srinagar May 12 (KNS): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Baramulla & Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg assisted by SHO PS Kunzer during patrolling at Dhobiwan Kunzer intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot, but were apprehended. During search, 225 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Khanday son of Bashir Ahmad Khanday resident of Utikoo & Sahil Ahmad Lone son of Riyaz Ahmad Lone resident of Ferozpora Tangmarg. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

Meanwhile, a police party of PS Handwara arrested four drug peddlers including a juvenile, while patrolling at New Bus Stand Handwara. They have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Shafi resident of Braripora, Moomin Masood Qureshi son of Masood Ul Hussain Qureshi resident of Zargar Mohalla Handwara, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad resident of Herpora Handwara and a juvenile (name withheld). During search, 338 grams of Charas was recovered from their possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
