Seizing ₹24 Lacs Worth of Properties from Notorious Peddler
Srinagar, Mar 01 – In a major development in the ongoing fight against drug peddling, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have confiscated properties worth ₹24 lacs from a notorious drug dealer in Baramulla district.
As part of their relentless crackdown on drug peddlers, the police attached a double-storied residential house, valued at approximately ₹24 lacs, owned by Mohd Zahid Shah (Geelani), son of Peer Hussain Shah, a resident of Basgran Uri.
This action falls under sections 68-E read with 68-F (1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985 and is connected to the ongoing investigation of FIR No. 54/2022 filed under sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act at PS Uri.
During the investigation and subsequent enquiry conducted by the police, the property was identified as illicitly acquired from the illegal drug trafficking activities conducted by the aforementioned peddler.
“This operation serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the police in combating the drug menace,” the official statement highlighted. It further noted that local residents in the area have praised the initiative taken by the police.
With stringent measures being implemented to curb the drug trade, such actions by the J&K Police underscore their determination to create a drug-free environment and safeguard the well-being of the community.
