Dhoni”s run out was crucial, believes Ross Taylor

0

Manchester, July 11 One of the senior-most players in the New Zealand team, Ross Taylor”s knock of 74 proved to be crucial in the World Cup semifinal against India, but what was even more challenging for the former skipper was having to resume his innings on Wednesday morning after the game was stopped due to rain on Tuesday in the 47th over of the innings.

“I woke up at three in the morning so I didn”t know how I was going to go out and bat. It was such a strange one, it was a Test match feeling almost, being not out overnight and being a bit restless.

“But we talked about 240 being what Kane (Williamson) and I thought was a very competitive total. I don”t think a lot of people believed us. It was a really slow wicket and if anything it got better to bat once it rained.

“The big boys up front were fantastic getting those three wickets and from there it was nice to be ahead of the game. Jadeja and Dhoni nearly took it away from us. There was some brilliance out there, the catch of Jimmy Neesham, the run-out of Martin Guptill without even the keeper there. Those highlights in a few years” time will be something the team will never forget,” he said.

Taylor said that dismissing Dhoni held the key for the Kiwis. “The run out broke India”s heart I suppose because Dhoni has won the game from that situation many a times. Once we got him, we were pretty confident of the result. We are happy and proud to be in the final, regardless of who it is going to be between England and Australia,” he explained.

Taylor also added that the Kiwis are now better equipped than in 2015 to win the World Cup. “It was strange last time. We played so well throughout the tournament but then jumped on a plane and played in a country we hadn”t played in for the whole tournament.

“I”d be lying if I said we weren”t a bit overawed by the change of scenery. I think we know what to expect, the pressures that come with it, we”ve been there before. You just have to enjoy it, it”s the Home of Cricket, I can”t think of a better place to play a final. Whether it”s England or Australia, we have to enjoy the moment, put our best foot forward and hope for the best,” he said.

For ”Monetary Consideration,” Top Officials Granted Bulk Gun Licences In J&K

0

After a series of raids in Jammu and adjoining districts on Tuesday, the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation are close to laying their hands on the biggest gun-running racket emerging from J&K state. The racket unravels a deep-rooted nexus between bureaucrats and arms dealers in Jammu and Kashmir, and further connects with the organised crime syndicates.

Trunks full of incriminating documents, ledgers, hard disks and files recovered from gun dealers and various government premises in Jammu and Udhampur reveal that norms were thrown to the wind by district magistrates while granting licences in bulk. The receipts and sale records found from over four gun dealers also point out that arm licences were issued in a very large quantity.

A confidential report of Jammu and Kashmir Home Department (AR/151/2017) dated July 2018 reveals: “Dy Commissioners of various districts particularly DC Kupwara and DC Udhampur have issued gun licences which run in thousands. It is also reflected in the report that authorities of districts are involved in malpractices in issuance of arms licences in lieu of monetary consideration.”

CBI sources said the role of various senior officials, including that of IAS officers, is being probed in connection with serious irregularities committed while granting bulk gun licences.

The nexus between bureaucrats and gun-runners was unravelled when Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Rajasthan police informed the J&K government in 2017 that arm licences were issued to criminals by authorities in districts such as Jammu, Kupwara and Kathua. During the interrogation of the accused persons, the ATS discovered that government officials and licensed arms dealers in J&K were involved.

“We are of the view that persons of criminal background, who by law cannot get arms licences, procured these gun licences or got them renewed. We are gathering evidence on end users,” said a CBI source.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also swung into action. The MHA accessed details from National Database for Arms Licences (NDAL) for the period 01.01.2017-23.08.2018 and found indiscriminate issuance of licence in various districts of J&K. Obviously, concerned from a security point of view (as the matter relates to J&K), an enquiry was also initiated in New Delhi. Later on the instructions of MHA, the state government ordered Divisional Commissioner (Jammu/Kashmir) to conduct a probe in various districts relating to arms licence racket.

The report of the Divisional Commissioner finally corroborated the ATS findings.

The J&K government then decided to order a CBI probe into the gun scandal. Sources in the CBI said that various documents are being scrutinized to identify persons who were issued gun licences. According to an official, once the criminal syndicates, which procured the gun licences are identified, the agency will also probe their links with inter-state gangs or terror outfits.(IANS)

Pertainally, Kashmir Despatch had exclusively carried this news report on 29 June titled “Brazen nepotism plagues Health Department Kashmir”.

A day after the story was published in Kashmir Despatch authoritative sources revealed that Governor’s office took strong notice of this news report and asked the administrative department of health and medical education to take immediate action.

Dr Rashid Parra, who is incharge of DH Pulwama from last three years, was asked by the Directorate of Health Services on the directions of the Administration department to file facts about the longest staying gynecologist in the hospital as the department has posted a new gynecologist there.

However, as the per the order, the Incharge MS “concealed the facts and submitted misleading information to the Directorate by deliberately omitting” the name of his wife [Dr Hafeeza Akhtar] who is posted in the hospital since 9/2011, while as Dr Shaheena who has been recommend for transfer is posted in the hospital from 2015 , the order issued by the administrative department of health and medical education reads.

Officials in the health department said that a new gynecologist was posted in the hospital this year and the incharge MS was asked to submit details of the longest serving gynecologist, who is his wife, to the Directorate, for transfer.

But the incharge MS Dr Parra misled the department and submitted name of another gynecologist, Dr Shaheena, while concealing his wife’s name, who is posted in the hospital from 18 years.

Officials said that acting on the media reports which had reported the factual information and verifying the reports, the administrative department took cognisance of the matter and asked the incharge MS to explain his position.

Delhi taking revenge from resistance leaders: Geelani

0

Srinagar, July 10 : Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health of jailed amalgam spokesperson Ayaz Akbar, extension of remand of JKLF chairman Yasin Malik by NIA, sealing of residential house of jailed DeM chief Asiya Indrabi and repeated questioning of his grandson Anees-ul-Islam by NIA.

“Indian rulers have very brazenly crossed all the moral, ethical and human limits to take revenge from the people in general and pro-freedom leaders and activists in particular,” Geelani said in a statement issued.

He said the wife of Ayaz Akbar is struggling for her life as she is suffering from breast cancer for the last 4 to 5 years. “In this pathetic situation, she needs the company, moral help and support of her husband, but those sitting in the power corridor of Delhi are so heartless that they can’t feel the pain and agony of the suffering families of these prisoners,” he said.

Hurriyat (G) chairman said that extending NIA custody of Yasin Malik is “yet again an attempt and a planned conspiracy” to prolong the detention of the pro-freedom leader. “Malik is suffering from multiple ailments and his continuous imprisonment has threatened his life and was hospitalized several times in recent past,” he said.

He strongly condemned the sealing of residence of Asiya Andrabi by NIA, and said his husband Dr Qasim Faktoo is facing life imprisonment for the last 27 years and now their family has been rendered homeless. “This is not only undemocratic and inhuman but shameful as well,” he said.

Geelani also condemned the repeated questioning of his family members by NIA and recent summoning of his grandson Anees-ul-Islam, saying it is aimed at putting a psychological burden on him to force him to “subjugation”.

“But these means and childish acts have been tried in past also and they failed to get their desired result,” he said.

Hurriyat (G) chairman said the “best and simple measure for India is to accept the historical facts and sincerely address the core issue”.
