Srinagar: The defending champions of Asia Cup, India will travel to Pakistan for the first time after both the nations played a bilateral series in 2005-2006. India was scheduled to begin the tour of Pakistan from January 2009 but the series was called off in wake of 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Both India and Pakistan will play against each other in Pakistan after a gap of 14 years. Pakistan is set to host the Asia Cup 2020 edition, decided in a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held in Singapore on Tuesday.
Bilateral ties were resumed after BCCI called the Pakistan national team to play three ODIs and two T20Is in December 2012 but India never visited the bordering nation. Since 2012, India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series and only play in the ICC and ACC tournaments.

India and Pakistan last played in the Asia Cup 2018, where India defeated Pakistan and went on to win the trophy after beating Bangladesh in the finals. In 2017, India and Pakistan met two times in the Champions Trophy where India won the league stage match and Pakistan defeated India in the finals to lift the trophy.

India and Pakistan will now play in the World Cup 2019 taking place in England and Wales. The arch-rivals will lock horns against each other on June 16 in Manchester’s Old Trafford stadium.

Time away helped me reflect on my game, says KL Rahul

0

Cardiff, May 29 (PTI) Indian batsman KL Rahul would never prefer a forced break but self-introspection during his time off from the game helped him bounce back well

from the chat show controversy, he admitted.

Rahul has more or less guaranteed his place in India’s World Cup playing XI with a hundred against Bangladesh in the warm up game on Tuesday while batting at the much talked about No. 4 slot.

“The time off from game does give a player opportunity to reflect on himself and it wasn’t any different for me,” Rahul told reporters referring to the time he was provisionally suspended by the BCCI for his loose talk on a TV show.

“I spend some time with friends and family. It was important as I have been on the road for a long time. Given the situation, that’s not how I would have liked to get some time off but anyway I tried to make the best use of it,” said the stylish batsman, whose 108 off 99 balls has virtually ended the debate on No 4 slot.

He doesn’t want to dwell on the past and the focus is now back on the game.

“What’s gone is gone and the focus is always on cricket. I am really happy with how I have managed to bounce back. IPL gave me a lot of confidence and really happy that I could carry that confidence here today (Tuesday),” Rahul said.

He has said it a number of times and again acknowledged the role played by India A coach Rahul Dravid in his comeback.

“There were a few things about my batting and my technique that I needed to fix. I worked with my coach back home in Bengaluru and India A games gave me a bit of opportunity.

“Like speaking to Rahul Dravid about mental preparation and how to handle low confidence and poor form. The best way to get back to scoring runs is to find that form in the middle and I got that opportunity. From there, it just carried on. I was very hungry to come back and score runs for whatever team I played,” he spoke on his comeback.

He is all set to bat at No 4, having opened the innings most of the times, he has been ready for quite some time as the current team expects all the players to be ready for any role assigned to them.

“Every batsman, who has played at this level knows how to handle pressure and responsibility given to him. It’s a team game where everybody is prepared for the last couple of years so that any role can be given, come a big game. So all of us have prepared in that way and nothing that is given to any individual will come off as a surprise,” he said when asked about the pressure of playing at a new slot.

He considers himself lucky that in the past few years while playing for India, he got an opportunity to have a few good partnerships with Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“When we lost 4 wickets for not too much (against Bangladesh), it was important for us to stich a partnership. We (him and Dhoni) didn’t really talk too much in the middle as each of us had individual plans and we wanted to play that role.

“Batting with MS is a dream and luckily we have had a few good partnerships with him in the last two or three years. So I enjoy batting with him. The way he batted was so good to watch from the other end. He dominated the spinners and was striking from the first ball as well. So it was great for us,” he was all praise for the veteran.

Asked about the Sophia Gardens track, the batsman said that it was a “beauty” and he would love to come back here.

“I got a hundred so I would love to come back here. There was a bit of movement, in the first 20 or 30 overs. There was a little bit for fast bowlers. Wicket played beautifully. It was good to be out there in the middle and get used to the format and spend some time.

Don’t hate anyone: Arjun to woman who accused him of disliking Sridevi

0

Mumbai, May 29 (PTI) Arjun Kapoor, who recently made his relationship with Malaika Arora official, gave a befitting reply to a woman who accused him of showing hatred towards the late actor Sridevi, his father Boney Kapoor’s second wife.

Arjun, 33, and Malaika, 45, initially kept their relationship under wraps, but are more open now. Malaika was married to actor-director-producer Arbaaz Khan but got divorced in 2017.

The woman, who claimed to be a fan of actor Varun Dhawan, on Tuesday accused Arjun of “double standards”, saying that he used to hate Sridevi but has no problem dating Malaika.

“You hate your father’s second wife because your father left your mother, and now you are dating a woman who is 11 years elder to you and has a teenage son. Why double standards @arjunk26 ???” the woman wrote on Twitter.

Sridevi, who died in February 2018, was Boney’s second wife. The producer was previously married to Arjun’s mother Mona Shourie Kapoor.

Replying to the woman, Arjun said he used to maintain distance from the late actor and had he hated her, he would not have been present at her funeral.

“I don’t hate anyone… We kept a dignified distance, If I did I wouldn’t have been there for my dad, Janhvi & Khushi at a sensitive time… It’s easy to type & judge, think a little. You’re @Varun_dvn fan, so I feel I should tell you don’t spread negativity with his face on your DP,” he wrote.

The woman later deleted her posted and in another tweet, she apologised to the actor.

“I apologise if I have hurt anyone’s sentiments. I meant to do no harm. Extremely sorry to all @arjunk26 Fans…. Please Forgive me. It was just my opinion. Have nothing against @arjunk26 Sir or #MalaikaArora Ma’am. . SORRY SIR @arjunk26,” she wrote.

Varun said he is “glad” the woman and added that Arjun has a very big heart.

“I’m glad you apologised. It’s okay, Arjun is not upset. Lets just all live our own lives. Arjun has a big heart like I always say. I don’t want any of my fans to talk bad about any actors #keepiteasy” he posted.

Kashmiri youth believed to have joined ISIS in 2013 captured in Syria: Report

0

A Kashmiri youth believed to have joined ISIS, is reportedly in the custody of US-led forces in Syria after hundreds of fighters surrendered in March this year

The youth identified as Adil Ahmad Wada is believed to have informed his family — based in the Jawahar Nagar locality of Srinagar — about the development through an audio message on March 25, Economic Times reported.

According to the report the family has since approached Jammu & Kashmir Police and other agencies seeking help to bring their son back. They have also sought an appointment with Governor Satya Pal Malik. The authorities have reportedly informed the family that the process would be started after a new government assumes office in New Delhi.

Wada apparently informed his family that he along with over 1,500 ISIS fighters and their families were intercepted and captured by US-led forces around March in Syria.

Wada, who has an MBA from Queensland University in Australia, is believed to have joined ISIS in 2013, when he allegedly misinformed his family that he got a job in an NGO in Turkey, after struggling to find one in Australia, Qatar and Dubai.

Aadil’s father, Fayaz Ahmad Wada told Economic Times that the group was surrounded by the US forces and asked to surrender. “They performed Istikhara (a prayer recited by Muslims when in need of guidance in life) and decided to surrender along with their weaponry as many women and children were part of this large group,”

Days later following another attack they lost touch with their son, Wada added.
