Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani on Monday broke down for not being allowed to participate in funerals of “martyrs” and expressing condolence with their families, saying Kashmir has been turned into a prison.

“Outside the four corners under which we live, there is police vehicle on one side and CRPF on other side. We are not allowed to move and this stands reason we are unable to reach to the people, victims,” Geelani told a gathering of mourners at Sopore.

“We are unable to participate in the funerals of the martyrs and express condolence with their families,” Geelani said and broke down.

After remaining under house detention for long, the octogenarian was on Thursday allowed to move towards Sopore to visit his daughter whose husband died two days back at a Srinagar hospital.

Ghulam Hassan Makdhoomi, the eldest son-in-law of the Geelani, passed away at SKIMS Soura on Tuesday.

Requesting youth to abstain from immoral and unsocial activities, Geelani said, “Resourceful enemy’s strategy is to destroy and cripple us.” He appealed the young generation to abide by Islamic teachings and “get to nerves of the oppressed so that it never succeeds in its nefarious designs.”

MLA Shopian Adv. Mohd Yousuf Bhat has expressed anguish over the pesky power supply in Shopian. The power scenario in Shopian has worsened since last snowfall and has taken the toll on the entire population of the district.
In a statement issued to KNS, Adv Mohd Yousuf Bhat said “it is surprising to see that few inches of snow has snapped the power supply to this district and since then is playing hide and seek with the people. The entire district is facing erratic power supply and administration is invisible on ground”.

“The frequency of power cuts in entire district has increased and has rendered the whole population of the district in darkness, with no indication of improvement in the near future. The power cuts are more frequent and extended during the evening hours. The situation in the rural areas is far worse and most of the villages don’t get electricity for days together,” MLA said.

He said that the power supply is under tremendous stress and common consumers including the students and traders are bearing the brunt of unscheduled power cuts and Irked by the frequent power cuts, the people from all walks of life have started taking to streets to protest against the power shortage.
“People of Shopian are paying electricity dues properly and in time, and yet are reeling under darkness. Administration had promised it would supply uninterrupted electricity in few days but the same has proved to be a hoax,” Bhat added.

He warned that if Power Development Department fails to supply uninterrupted electricity to the people, then the business community will be forced to come on roads. While extending his full support to the bandh call called by Traders federation Shopian, MLA impressed upon the governor administration to intervene and get the power supply restored to this hill district as unscheduled power cuts are adding to the miseries of the local population in this chilly winter.

The family of the eight-year-old Kathua rape and murder victim has decided to drop their lawyer Deepika Rajawat as she has barely been available at the court hearings, the victim’s father has said.

Those close to the family said he has moved an application in the Pathankot court in Punjab, where the case was earlier shifted. It said that Rajawat shall not represent them and the power of attorney was being withdrawn.

The father told reporters on Wednesday that so far the case has been heard 100 times by the court and around 100 witnesses have been examined during the trial, but Rajawat had only appeared twice for the family.

Rajawat, who hogged newspaper headlines when she spearheaded the cause of the nomadic family, told the media that she was receiving death threats ever since she became associated with the case.

The victim was raped and subsequently murdered in Rasana village of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir in January.

Eight people, including Sanji Ram, the alleged mastermind of the crime, have been arrested.

The Supreme Court transferred the hearing of the case to a Pathankot court that has been holding the trial on a day-to-day basis. (Agencies)

Geelani voices concern over plight of prisoners

0

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani has expressed his serious concern about the pathetic condition our prisoners are made to face in and outside the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that despite being political prisoners they are denied every right guaranteed in the national or international jail manual. Revengeful attitude of the rulers in Delhi has grossed every limit of heartlessness and in sensitivity. They willfully prolong their stay in jails through their judicial victimization.
Slow and humiliating judicial process has ruined the life of so many young innocents. He cited examples of Tariq Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Rafiq Owasi, Iqbal Jan, Samiullah Sheikh and others who were declared innocent after a long period of more than a decade.

Hurriyat (G) chairman said that even the Muslims of India are not speared and champions of Hindutwa and the judicial legends in the shape of High Court and Supreme Court take more than 30 years to identify and punish the culprits who in police uniform butchered 42 Muslims in broad-day-light in presence of masses, putting a big question mark on the competence and efficiency of the judicial system of the so-called world’s largest democracy.

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman said that ghost of NIA is threatening every Kashmiri and this much hyped investigative institution has dug so low to pave its worse in every trivial issue without any documentary proof.
He said that those arrested on factious cases are yet to be augmented with the documentary evidence of their “crimes”.

He said that Sang Parivaar is only prolonging their custody using judicial fools and Mr. Shabir Ahamad Shah, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahamad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahamad Khan, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahamad Dar, Shahid Yousaf, Syed Shakeel Ahmad, Zahoor Ahamad Watali, Asia Andrabi, Fahmeedah Sofi, Naheedah Nasreen continues to bear the brunt of this victimization for more than a year now. Similarly for the last 9 years Mr. Dr. G. M. Bhat is languishing in Tihar jail and the list of fake witness (240), out of which only 33 have surfaced in these 9 years and if the judicial pace is same it may need another 50 years for judicial pears to testify his charges.

Extending his gratitude and rich tributes to the unwavering commitment and resolve displayed by the young Hurriyat leaders Masrat Aalam Bhat and Mohammad Yousuf Falahi, Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani regretted the denial of justice to the prisoners of conscience belonging to the resistance movement of Kashmir. Slapping of public safety act for the 36 times on Masrat Aalam Bhat and about a dozen PSA’s on Mohammad Yousuf Falahi has created a history of non compliance of the judicial orders, said Hurriyat chairman and added that Indian rulers do not respect their own laws and even the release order from their courts are disrespected and disobeyed.
He said that judicial victimization is at peak as regards to Kashmir detainees and our pro-freedom leaders and workers are subjugated to dozens of PSA on the self favored charges, which include Gh. Qadir Bhat, Gh. Mohammad Khan Sopori, Gh. Ahmad Gulzar, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, Nisar Hussain Rather, Mohammad Ayoub Mir, Showkat Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Yousuf Mir, Ab. Gani Bhat, Nazir Ahmad Dentar, Bilal Ahmad Kota, Mohammad Ayoub Dar, Feroz Ahmad Bhat, Tariq Ahmad Bhat, Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, Umar Aadil Dar, Shabir Ahmad Dar, Shakeel Ahmad Bakshi, Ashiq Hussian Bhat, Basharat Ahmad Mir, Manzoor Ahmad Najar, Riyaz Ahmad Dar, Lateef Ahmad Rather, Lateef Ahmad Dar, Showkat Ahmad Ganie, Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie, Sajad Ahmad Bhat, Mushtaq Ul Islam, Asadullah Parray, Farooq Tawheedi, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Riyaz Ahmad Ahanger, Hakeem Showkat, Mehraj-ud-din Gojri, Sajad Molvi, Ab. Majeed Bhat, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Ab. Rashid Magloo, Sheikh Mohammad Ramzan, Ashiq Hussain Narchoor, Sartaj Ahmad, Siraj-ud-din etc.

Hurriyat chairman while quoting the CRPC section 436-A said that where a person has, during the period of investigation, inquiry or trial under this section of an offence under any law undergone detention for a period extending up to one-half of the maximum period of imprisonment specified for that offence under that law, he shall be released by the court on his personal bond with or without sureties.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference (G) leaders expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of son in law of Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Geelani Ghulam Hassan Maqdoomi.
According to a statement, a high level delegation of Hurriyat leaders headed by General Secretary Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji and accompanied by senior Hurriyat leaders and activists including Mohammad Yousuf Naqash , Bilal Sidiqi, Rafiq Ahmad Ganai, Molvi Bashir Irfani, Shaqeel Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Maqbool Magami and many other activists visited the bereaved family in Duru Sopore and expressed solidarity with them and prayed for departed soul and forbiddance to grieved family.
