Police crack car theft case, accused held

Srinagar, March 25 : Police on Monday said that it has arrested a thief in Srinagar and recovered a stolen Maruti car and a bike from his possession.

“A written complaint was lodged by Irfan Ahmad Ganie son of Abdul Qayoom Ganie resident of Yari-Kalan Chadoora in Police Station Karan Nagar stating that one individual was trying to steal his Maruti 800 car at Karan Nagar,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 16/2019 under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was initiated, he said.

“During the investigation, one suspect person namely Abdul Hamid Mir son of Abdul Rahim Mir resident of Rawal Pora Budgam was apprehended and from his possession, one Maruti car, one bike, two master keys and a wooden scale was recovered,” he said.

Further investigation is going on. More arrests/recoveries are expected, he said.

The general public has applauded the prompt and swift action of the police, he said. 

Shah Faesal to contest from Lolab

Srinagar, March 25 : Former IAS officer Shah Faesal, who launched Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement (JKPM) earlier this month, on Monday announced to contest the assembly elections, expected in next two months, from Lolab constituency.   

“God willing, I will contest from Lolab. People are yearning for change and they are confident about the change taking place,” he said while addressing a rally at Lalpora, Lolab. The JKPM has already announced no to contest the ensuing election to Parliament.

Without naming Peoples Democratic Party, he also castigated the party for bring BJP and RSS in Kashmir and “start a new era of bloodshed and played with the lives of our youth.”  Also without naming National Conference, Faesal said that the party was “offering candidature” to him. “I asked I simple question to myself, how will I justify deceit and deceptions with the people of J&K for 70 years,” he said, according to GNS.      

While launching the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement (JKPM), Shah Faesal has promised a youth-oriented politics.

Shah Faesal resigned from prestigious services to protest “unabated killings in Kashmir and marginalisation of Indian Muslims”.

“Our party shall pursue a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir problem as per the will and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and with dignity and respect. As a mainstream political party, I want to make it clear to you that the solution to Kashmir issue finally is an issue between the two nations (India and Pakistan).

“I do not say there will be an overnight miracle, the road ahead is long and we can facilitate and become a voice to bridge the gap between the two countries as well as between Delhi and Srinagar,” he had said. (GNS)

Minor siblings drown in stream in North Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 25 : In a tragic incident, two minor siblings drowned in a stream at Rafiabad in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.

Reports reaching GNS said that Mohammad Ashraf Najar, 12, son of Mohammad Iqbal Najar while trying to save his eight-year-old sister Seerat Jan slipped into the Nallah at upper reaches of Shalkote area of Rafiabad.

Ashraf tried to rescue his sister from drowning, however, both drowned, they said.

Soon after the incident, locals and police reached the spot and retrieved the body of Ashraf while searches are on to retrieve the body of another.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal while confirming the tragic deaths said the rescue teams have so far retrieved the body of Ashraf while efforts are on to fish out the girl’s body. (GNS)

Akbar Lone dares BJP, RSS to file FIR against him

Srinagar, Mar 25 : A day after the state unit of the BJP filed an application for disqualification of National Conference leader Mohammed Akbar Lone as poll constant from Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency Akbar Lone hit back at BJP a king it file an FIR against him for shouting “Pro-Pakistan” slogans.

While talking to reporters on the sidelines of an election rally at Tangmarg, Lone said, “He would defend article 370 and article 35-A in Parliament. “National Conference stands for resolution of Kashmir issue and we will strive hard for its resolution,” he said. (KNS) 

Geelani concerned over crackdown on pro-freedom leaders

Srinagar, Mar 25 : Deeply concerned about the continued crackdown on pro-freedom leaders, their relatives, activists and particularly youth, Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani said that the rhetoric of India being world’s largest democracy is mere hoax and deceit as its highhandedness and brutality, aggressive military and coercive measures have tarnished every fabric of democratic norm, if any, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Condemning the shifting of Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Hamid Fayaz to Kuthwa and crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami, JKLF and other pro-freedom leaders and activists, Hurriyat (G) chairman said that every political event in India brings a bad of worries and miseries for the helpless inmates of Jammu and Kashmir.

As now the election activities are on peak in whole of India, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, it opens the doors of prisons, interrogation centers and police stations.

He said that to make this militarized election drama a success every sane voice for basic and fundamental rights is strangulated through the barrel of gun and by the blunt sword of investigative institutions.

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman said that suppressing genuine aspiration of people through un-paralleled force and might has always catastrophic ramifications and non resolution of this nuclear flash point has proved it many times.

He said that nobody on earth has ever succeeded in curbing the freedom sentiment and India stands as an example itself. So early it accomplishes the reality, better it will be for the world in general and sub-continent in particular, he added.

LS Polls: Mehbooba Mufti nominates PDP’s star campaigners for Parliament Elections

Srinagar, Mar 25 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday intimated the names of the party leaders to Election Commission of India who have been nominated as Star campaigners for the coming Lok Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir by the party president Mehbooba Mufti.

Signed by PDP General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, a letter was sent to Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir in which names of nine PDP leaders were declared as the star campaigners of the party.

The names are Mehbooba Mufti, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, Abdul Rahman Veeri, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, Abdul Haq Khan, Dilawar Mir, Mehboob Beigh, Nizam-ud-din Bhat and party’s Srinagar district President and MLC Mohammad Khurshid Alam. 

NC isn’t only a political party but a movement: Farooq Shah

Srinagar, Mar 25 : Former bureaucrat Farooq Shah who recently joined National Conference (NC) today said that he gave up his chair for the betterment of his constituency (Gulmarg) and for the better future of the youth of his area.

Addressing a rally in Kunzer area of Tangmarg, Shah said the Gulmarg was once a strong forte of NC, but with time its local leaders were harassed and forced to switch sides.

Without naming anyone, Shah said the environment of fear was created in this area by the politicians. “People used to have sleepless nights and continuous fear. Now those days have gone. Those people will lose their deposits in the upcoming polls. People want change,” Shah said.

He said even in 2019, this constituency and its people are still aspiring for sadak, bijli and paani. “This constituency should not have backward. We had two crowns Gulmarg and Baba Reshi…but we are still lagging behind because of the politicians who exploited this constituency,” he said.

Shah said, “I will do honest politics…I won’t do dirty politics like others who did it here. In the name of casual jobs people were deceived. Those people are still without salaries even after 6 years. Once we (NC) form the government power, we will frame a job policy for youths.”

Shah said Gulmarg is a vast constituency but it is still underdeveloped. “Its roads are in shambles. Electric wires are still hooked with dilapidated wooden logs and trees. People still fetch water from streams, which is not good for health.

I left my chair for the future of my people. People want change here, he added.

Omar seeks clarification from Mehbooba on fake PRC scam

Srinagar, Mar 25 : National Conference Vice President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday sought clarifications from PDP President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on fake permanent resident certificate (PRC), which was exposed by NC leader and a former PDP minister Basharat Bukhari, raids by NIA against separatists, implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) and execution of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES).

Addressing an election rally in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Omar hit out at PDP President and another former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and sought from her clarifications over fake Permanent Resident certificate recently (PRC) scam unraveled by a National Conference leader and former Revenue Minister Basharat Bukhari.

Omar asked if Mehbooba could not initiate action on fake PRC Sam then how come she would defend Article 370 and Article 35A.?

Omar said “Mehbooba can’t reply these questions”, adding tbat she bulldozed special status of the State by implementing the central food supplies scheme code named Mufti Mohammad Food Entitlement Scheme (MMSFES), and Goods and Services Tax which have choked the economy of poor people.

Launching a frontal attack on Mehbooba Mufti over misuse of National Investigative Agency (NIA) during PDP-BJP coalition rule in the state Omar said, “she while in power allowed NIA to raid the residences of separatists and arrest them under draconian laws’, adding that” as Chief Minister I used NIA for the release of Pak trained militants not for the raids at the residences of separatists and arresting them under stringent laws.”

Omar also hit out at Peoples Conference Chairman for sending a letter on government to Governor to head a BJP government and sabotage the takeover by Altaf Bukhari as Chief Minister of “PDP-Congress-NC” government in the state adding that “Sajad Lone now wants seats from Kashmir for BJP.”

“Sajjad Lone also sent the letter. Who were supporting him? He (Lone) had support of all the BJP MLAs. So it is very clear that voting Sajjad Lone will be voting for Modi. Who will here support BJP and Modi who are adamant to erode Article 370,” he said.

Omar said that the BJP has a clear policy to revoke Article 35-A, and destroy the special status and identity of Jammu and Kashmir. “Will you people support these BJP backed people?” Omar told the gathering.

Omar asked people to vote for the parliament member who will fight for the special status of J&K in parliament, for your rights, for your identity and for your development.

Omar went on saying that in north Kashmir, he sees only one candidate in the field and the candidate is the one who even at times makes “my blood pressure high”, and that candidate is Akbar Lone.

“Akbar Lone is honest at heart…He speaks what is in his heart… ladaku nahi hai, shararti nahi hai,” he said.

Baramulla, March 25 : Awami Ittehad Party leader Er Rasheed on Monday said that former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir is playing role of Asiya Andrabi now to gain image on ground level.

Er Rasheed while addressing media after filing nomination papers at DC office Baramulla for upcoming elections said that Mehbooba Mufti for gaining vote bank is playing role of Asiya Andrabi.

While talking to Media Er Rasheed said that I filed nomination papers for the benifit of people as they everytime are complaining that they are disappointed with previous regimes whether its NC, PDP or Congress. He said that it’s time for people now to decide whether they want me for the sigh of relief.

Er Rasheed while lashing out at Mehbooba Mufti over her recent statement that PDP workers are real Mujahideen, Er Rasheed said that she only has destroyed Kashmir. (GNS)

BJP leader demands FIR against Akbar Lone

Baramulla, March 25 : Bharatiya Janata Party leader M. M War on Monday said that an FIR should be registered against National Conference senior leader Akbar Lone for his recent statements .

War who filed nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections told reporters that Lone was enacting a drama for votes by issuing misleading statements against India.

PDP’S Abdul Qayoom Wani, Raja Aijaz Ali of People’s Conference, Akbar Lone of National Conference and Independent Candidate Amir Sohail filed nomination papers at Deputy Commissioner office for Baramulla seat. (GNS)
