Balakot air strike didn’t yield desired results: Togadia

0

Bhopal,(PTI) Former VHP leader Praveen Togadia Friday said the air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp in Pakistan has not yielded desired results as terror attacks have not stopped in Jammu and Kashmir.

Militant attacks have not stopped due to the “weak” leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he alleged.

Without naming then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the Hindutva leader praised the country’s leadership during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.

“My question is, have militant attacks stopped after the air strike in Balakot? After the air strike, two majors and 10 jawans had been killed (in separate incidents in J&K).

There was a grenade attack in Jammu yesterday,” he said.

“If the surgery has been done, what is its importance (if the disease has not been cured)? Surgery (for me) means to get the patient rid of cancer,” Togadia, a qualified cancer surgeon, told reporters here.

To a question, Togadia said what is the use of air strikes if solders are still dying?

“We split Pakistan in 1971, but at that time the leadership was with somebody else,” said the firebrand Hindutva leader.

Apparently referring to Modi, who made a surprise visit to Pakistan in 2015-end, he said, “The leadership which without invitation goes to eat the cake of (former) Prime Minister (Nawaz Sharif) is weak.”

“Official figures say 488 soldiers had been killed in 53 months (in J&K). Why was Pakistan the most favoured country for Modiji?” he asked.

Togadia said it was baffling that separatist leaders in Kashmir were provided security.

“Modi should answer this. Modiji has neglected national security,” he charged.

“Life of every human is of great importance but that of soldier is of paramount importance to us,” Togadia said.

He disapproved of the ongoing politics over the February 26 the air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed camp inside Pakistan.

“Army Soldier Safe”: Government Denies Report Jawan Kidnapped In J&K

SRINAGAR:

The Defence Ministry today said media reports of the abduction of a serving Army soldier on leave from Budgam in Jammu and Kashmir were “incorrect”. Army jawan Mohammad Yaseen Bhat was on a month-long leave and visiting his home at Qazipora Chadoora in the district, 28 km from Srinagar.

Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, a rifleman in the Army, had returned home on February 26.

“Clarification. Media reports of the abduction of a serving Army soldier on leave from Qazipora, Chadoora, Budgam are incorrect. Individual is safe. Speculations may please be avoided,” the Defence Ministry spokesperson tweeted this morning.

There is heightened security in Kashmir valley after last month’s attack by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed in Pulwama; 40 CRPF soldiers were killed.

In June last year, Aurangzeb – a rifleman with 44 Rashtriya Rifles – was kidnapped and shot dead by terrorists in Pulwama when he was travelling in a private vehicle, on his way home in Poonch to celebrate Eid with his family.

The soldier’s killing had led to an outpouring of grief in his village in Mendhar, 250 km from Sirnagar. About 50 men claimed that they left their lucrative jobs in Saudi Arabia to return permanently to Salani village, to join the police and the Army to avenge the death of their friend and fellow villager.

Aurangzeb’s murder was followed by the killing of two policemen and a CRPF jawan when they were home on leave.

A distance of less than 300 km which normally takes around six to seven hours, now takes almost 15 hours to complete.

US issues travel advisory for citizens: Don’t visit J&K due to ‘terrorism’, don’t go near Pak border

0

The United States Saturday issued a travel warning for its citizens visiting India due to “terrorism and civil unrest” in the country. It also asked Americans not to go within 10 kilometres of the border with Pakistan “due to the potential for armed conflict.”

The level-2 travel alert comes in the wake of tensions between India and Pakistan, that escalated after the Jaish-e-Mohammad carried out a terrorist attack on a CRPF vehicle in Pulwama on February 14, killing 40 personnel.

White House bureau chief Steve Herman said on Twitter Saturday: “US issues Level 2 travel alert for #India — “exercise increased caution,” warning Americans to not visit most of Jammu and Kashmir due to “terrorism and civil unrest” and not go within 10 km of the border with #Pakistan “due to the potential for armed conflict.”

Asserting that some areas have increased risk, the US asked its citizens to exercise increased caution in India due to “crime and terrorism”. However, the country has made an exception for tourists visiting the eastern Ladakh region and its capital Leh.

A Level 2 alert suggests ‘exercise increased caution’, Level 3 means ‘reconsider travel’. Level 1 advises travellers to exercise normal precaution, while Level 4 recommends “Do Not Travel”.

The advisory stated that “militants may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, and government facilities.”

Citing rape cases as another reason for the advisory, the US government said, “Indian authorities report rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crime, such as sexual assault, has occurred at tourist sites and in other locations.”

Referring to J&K, the advisory said, “Sporadic violence occurs particularly along the Line of Control (LOC) separating India and Pakistan, and in tourist destinations in the Kashmir Valley: Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam. The Indian government prohibits foreign tourists from visiting certain areas along the LOC.”

It further said, “India and Pakistan maintain a strong military presence on both sides of the border. The only official India-Pakistan border crossing point for persons who are not citizens of India or Pakistan is in the state of Punjab between Atari, India, and Wagah, Pakistan. The border crossing is usually open, but confirm the current status of the border crossing prior to commencing travel. A Pakistani visa is required to enter Pakistan. Only US citizens residing in India may apply for a Pakistani visa in India. Otherwise, apply for a Pakistani visa in your country of residence before travelling to India.”

The advisory also said that US government employees are prohibited from visiting some of the northeastern states in India. “Incidents of violence by ethnic insurgent groups, including bombings of buses, trains, rail lines, and markets, occur occasionally in the northeast. US government employees are prohibited from travelling to the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Manipur without special authorization from the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata,” it said.

Expressing their concerns over the “presence of Maoists groups in India”, the US government said, “Maoist extremist groups, or ‘Naxalites’, are active in a large swath of India from eastern Maharashtra and northern Telangana through western West Bengal, particularly in rural parts of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand and on the borders of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha. The Naxalites have conducted frequent terrorist attacks on local police, paramilitary forces, and government officials.”

In February, just after the deadly Pulwama attack, the US had urged its citizens to reconsider their travel to Pakistan mainly due to militancy and risks to civil aviation operating within or near the country. “Reconsider travel to Pakistan due to terrorism,” the State Department had said.

It had asked Americans not to travel to Balochistan province and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, including the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), due to terrorism, and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir area due to militancy and the potential for armed conflict.
