Three non local workers die due to “asphyxiation” in Kulgam

Kulgam, Dec 11, : Locals on Tuesday morning recovered three dead bodies from a room in Shou village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The deceased are non local labourers who probably have died due to asphyxiation, said a police official.

The dead bodies were shifted to District Hospital Kulgam for post mortem.

‘Prima facie it seems they have died due to asphyxiation. The deceased might have used a gas heater and died during sleep in a room with zero ventilation,” the official added.

 Another official said that the deceased have burn injuries. He identified the deceased as Wakil Kumar, Mishra and Shafi.

Kashmir University Law students protest, demand Examination In March

Srinagar : Students of Kashmir University’s law school on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration, demanding their final examinations be held in March instead of “rushing through it.”

Most students from 6th semester LLB including from supplementary shift assembled outside the office of varsity’s vice chancellor and staged the protest.

“The authorities are unnecessarily rushing through the examination,” the protesting students told GNS. “The authorities seem to be rushing through the examination but we request them to follow the proper schedule and hold the examinations in March so that we get proper time to prepare,” the students said.

Students demand proper time to prepare to face examination with relaxed mind rather than under duress. The weather in Kashmir Valley is also not feasible for examinations given that the deep freeze and power woes are adding to the difficulties of the people, particularly the students.

To pacify the protesting students, two senior faculty members reached the spot and assured the students that examination shall be conducted in March.

“We promise that the examination will be held in March and just give an application in this regard,” the faculty members assured the students. After the assurance, the students dispersed off peacefully. (GNS)

Man’s body with torture marks found buried in Kulgam orchard

Kulgam, Dec 11 (GNS):  More than a month after he was abducted, police has found body of a man, Sheraz Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, from his native Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Tuesday.

The body bearing torture marks was buried in the orchard and was recovered by the police on the information received by it, the officials said.

A police officer told GNS that information was collected during the investigation of the case. The disclosure was made by few persons arrested during the course of the investigation.
Confirming the recovery of the body, SSP Kulgam Harmeet Singh told GNS that presently postmortem is being conducted and further details with regard to the incident would be shared later.

The Officer said that the body would be handed over to the family for last rites after completion of medico-legal formalities.

Sheraz was abducted on October 25 from his home at Laroo Kulgam, three days after a gunfight
in Laroo Kulgam. Three militants were killed in the gunfight while seven civilians lost their life due to the explosion near the site of encounter. (GNS)

Forces lay siege to Sopore village

Sopore, Dec 11 : Government Forces on early Tuesday launched a cordon-and-search operation at Saidpora area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said that a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, Special Operation Group of Police (SOG) and CRPF sealed the area and conducted door to door search.

Official sources told this newspaper following the inputs about the presence of militants movement in the area search operation has been launched.

The searches in the area was on when last reports came in.

Sopore’s mini secretariat, a muddled dream

Sopore : Years have passed, Sopore’s plea for a mini secretariat is unheard, government is giving a step motherly treatment to Sopore.
Residents of Sopore find it difficult to travel door to door for a single piece of work, and accuses the volatile nature of Sopore.
Shafi Lara a Local resident told that “The town has always been a hub of pro-freedom parties right from Jamat-i-Islamia to Tehreek-i-Hurriyat.Sopore boycotted elections, followed strike calls and have always protested against human rights violations, that’s why Sopore is been left without many facilities and Mini secretariat is one of them”. He said
People from Sopore and adjacent areas are suffering for their basic needs. They are travelling for hours for a single signature. Mini secretariat could be the easiest solution for the issue , but government is showing compete negligence towards it. Sopore has the highest population and economic level, still this kind of negligence raise many questions at administration.
On a talk with news reporter, he accused the Deputy commissioner  for the delay of  the mini secretariat . ” I wrote an reminder letter to the Deputy commissioner reminding him of the mini secretariat, but no further orders have been given to us” – Additional Deputy commissioner told.
After this he cut the call showing an arrogant face towards our correspondent.
Officers sitting in big offices, with bigger arrogance, who call themselves the “servants of commoners” finds it difficult to pick up calls for serving  basic right of information.
On the other side Deputy comissioner Naasir is narrating a complete different story. He is unaware of the whole scenario “I did not receive any application . Still I will check, if there is any.”Deputy commissioner told.
This reporter contacted governor advisor B.B, Vyas he also has no idea about the issue.
He said “I am unaware of this project. I will first confirm it from authorities and will take it to the governor”B.B Vyas told.
Trade federation Sopore  Hashimtullah told news agency that established recently a tragers body is unaware about it .  He said i got it  to know about the issue from the media only.
“I actually have no idea,i got to know about this from you but I assure u that I will sit and talk to the ADC and DC. And will further take it to the governor.”trade federation. He said
The previous Additional Deputy commisione Sopore Khurshaid Shah has identified the land in cooperative garden Sopore for the mini secretariat , with 52 canals and 11 marls. He prepared a DPR report with a budget of 48 crores, buy it was declined by DC and was sent back for further changes. ADC cut the cost of mini secretariat to 22 crores and it was agreed by the DC. But time changed, and posts changed , governor took the state in his hand and the dream remained the dream.
Authorities are accusing each other for the delay of mini secretariat. People are suffering and officers are mocking of the situation by showing such a cold gesture toward the issue.

Toilet complex built in violation comes under road widening at Watergam Rafiabad

Srinagar, Dec 10 : A toilet complex has been built close to the Baramulla-Handwara highway near Watergam without a formal permission from Municipal Committee Watergam in Rafiabad area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Locals said that the toilet complex has been built at an estimated cost of rupees 16 lakhs in violation of the building permission rules as Municipal Committee Watergam has not been approached for grant of permission. They said the road widening is in progress and the toilet complex will have to be dismantled in short time which would cause a huge loss to the state exchequer.

Executive Officer Municipal Committee Watergam Imtiyaz Ahmad confirmed to KNS that no building permission has been granted for construction of toilet complex on the Baramulla-Handwara highway near Watergam.

Locals have sought immediate action against the contractor and the executing agency for violating the rules. (KNS)

‘Wall of Kindness’ Initiative Reaches Apple Town

Sopore, Dec 10 : The philanthropic initiative ‘Wall of Kindness’ which started in Srinagar earlier has reached north Kashmir’s Apple town.

After other districts volunteers here in Apple town also started this initiative of helping poor people with winter clothes, shoes and fruits through Wall of Kindness.

In Apple town a group of volunteers set a charitable wall at “Untoo Hamam” for the needy people.


Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said that soon after group of volunteers set a charitable wall scores of people have donated clothes on a wall for the needy people.

While lauded the efforts of group of volunteers, locals of the area urged on people of Sopore to donate clothes, which they no longer use, for those in need.

Pertainally the ‘Wall of Kindness’ was started in Srinagar last week that took social media by storm.

International Human rights Day observed in Kashmir

Srinagar 10 Dec : Human Rights Day is commemorated every year all over the world on 10th of December. It was first announced to be celebrated every year by the United Nations General Assembly on 10th of December in the year 1948. It is celebrated at this particular date annually to honour the United Nations General Assembly for declaring the human rights universally. Human rights day was officially established in the meeting of United Nations General Assembly on 4th of December in 1950.

This year the Human Rights Day was celebrated with the theme “Stand Up For Human Rights”. There were a series of events which were organised on the occasion .This day is celebrated to improve the physical, social, cultural and spiritual wellbeing and welfare of the vulnerable group of people globally.

The concept of Human Rights holds great significance in our lives, especially in today’s time when the exploitation of human beings is increasing day by day.

 However the human yearning for basic rights of all the individuals has been a fundamental aspect all through the course of human history. It is this understanding of the basic nature of human rights that we all need to be able to comprehend and realize its meaning, purpose and of course importance in the present times.

Human rights are universal in nature having a legal and moral framework, which aim towards safeguarding the interest of the people from rigorous legal, political and social abuses.

These rights have moral grounds and have found a place in law at both national as well as international levels. They are primarily addressed to the governments for their observance and enforcement.

However, despite these clearly formulated set of human rights, multiple cases of human rights breach at different places of this world have been observed.

Tik-Tok fever rises in Kashmir

Srinagar 10 Dec : Tik-Tok, the world’s one of the most downloaded application, something that most parents have never heard but among young generations including kids it is becoming one of the favorite application, and has created a large number of user base in Kashmir as all videos of young boys, kids as well as girls are going viral on social media.

Gulam Muhammad Mir, a parent said,  “Our Kashmir is known as Pirwar, we are culturally as well as morally civilized but unfortunately our youngsters especially girls are disgracing moral values by uploading such videos on social media.”

“The ethos of Kashmiri’s are different, as Muslim majority society it is against the manners, it may result in more drastic changes in the orientation of youths, and they may come with something more immoral and unethical stuff on social media if not carefully handled,” he said.

Tik tok a social media app is used for creating and sharing videos as well as for going live, launched in September 2016 by Bytdance, It is a leading short video platform in Asia and has extended to other parts of the world, becoming one of the fastest-growing apps with a large community across several countries for short music videos.

While talking to Kashmir News Bureau, Veena a social activist said, “This application can be utilized to dance, hone creativity, and expand the network of friends.”

If used properly our youngsters can use tik tok app for showing their talent but unfortunately this application is misused by some of its users, it is used for wasting time, referring to harassment especially on Islam, there has been a user Tik Tok to make a prayer video with a dance creating a huge negative impact on religion. DSEK warns of action against private schools for operating during winter vacations

Srinagar: The directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) has warned the private schools in the summer capital of de-recognition for violating government order for winter vacations.

A circular in this regard was issued after parents complained against some private schools here for violating government order on winter vacations.

“The directorate has been consistently receiving complaints from parents that some private schools are still continuing their classes up to 8th standard in violation of rules,” reads the circular signed by director school education Kashmir G N Itoo.

The J&K government on 29th November announced winter vacations for government and private recognized schools in Kashmir division and winter zone of Jammu division.

According to the order, winter vacations for classes up to eighth standard commenced from 6th December while as for classes from 9th standard onwards, will observe winter vacation from 17 December

However, some private schools here in violation of rules continue their classes of students KG to Class 6th causing inconvenience for the school going children.

The private schools have been reprimanded for violating government instructions and have been directed to follow government orders in letter and spirit without any breach.

“Strict action will be taken as per the provisions of the law in case any school is found involved in violating the orders. The action may include de-recognition of the educational institution,” reads the
