Baramula, Nov 16: An initiative to promote the unique & popular Body Building Sport in Baramulla. Local Rashtriya Rifles Battalion (Formidable XLVI) under the aegis of Dagger Gunners, Dagger Division organised a Powerlifting Contest on 16 Nov at Sherwani Hall,Baramulla Town.
Bodybuilding & Powerlifting is a popular sport & passion for many in Kashmir. Indian Army for the first time in Baramulla organised a unique and competitive event to channelise the energy of youth whereby 35 Participants took part in 10 different weight categories of Powerlifting.
The Body building and Powerlifting preparation & competition will instill sportsmanship, discipline & hardworking attitude towards life of the youth and take them away from vices of the society.
This event was competed in three rounds in each weight category. Winner was judged on the basis of performance in respective categories and overall contest. Winners of each round were felicitated. Over-all champion among categories was Mr Zubair Ahmad R/o Gulshanabad Old Town , Baramulla awarded a Rolling Championship Trophy alongwith a cash prize of Rs 10000 and Mr Mubeen Ahmad Akhoon r/o Jalal Sahib, Old Town Baramulla was awarded cash prize of Rs 5000 for being 1st Runner Up
The Chief Guest and Judge for the event was Mr Akhtar Wani from Handwara, the famous Powerlifting and Bodybuilding coach & certified fitness instructor from Gold’s Gym University Bangalore.
He has worked as fitness manager for Gold’s Gym in Bangalore from 2012-16.Returned back to the valley and setup his own Gym center in Handwara.He was declared the POWERFUL MAN OF THE YEAR 2018 By Gold gyms.
The organising committee Baramulla Bodybuilding Association which is headed by Dr Rafiq Mir Mr North Kashmir, Mr J&K Yr 2019 was also felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 5000
It was an effort by Indian Army to promote the famous & popular sport among the youth. Conducting of such competitive sports event has further strengthened the existing relationship with Awam. Also such sports always inspire the youth and the process to body building has inculcated sportsmanship qualities & gives a new meaning to life of an aspirant.
