KU had decided to conduct exams in of 5th, 6th semester in Aug, results were supposed to be out in Oct, say Varsity officials
Srinagar, Sept 17 : The prolonged uncertainty in Kashmir has taken a toll on the career of outgoing college students by further delaying completion of their degree this year.
According to the wire service—the batch of students enrolled in degree colleges in 2016 were supposed to complete their three year course in 2018 however, the introduction of semester system of exams by Kashmir University (KU) delayed the conduct of exams and declaration of results. In wake of this the course was extended to fourth year-2019.
The students are waiting for conduct of exams by the varsity which however is likely to be delayed due to the prevailing uncertainty in Kashmir.
“This year KU had decided to conduct combined exam for 5th and 6th semester of outgoing college students in August and result was to be declared in September or October month. But things changed abruptly due to the uncertainty,” a KU official told.
He said the KU administration is uncertain about holding exam for 5th and 6th semester undergraduate students given the prevailing situation Kashmir. “The delay in holding undergraduate exams will further defer holding PG entrance test of these students for their admission in PG courses offered by KU,” he said.
The official told that the varsity had decided this year to hold two admission sessions for the students for their admission in PG courses. First session was started
“First session was started in April this year for the students and second was supposed to be held in November. The second admission session was to be conducted for outgoing college students whose 5th and 6th semester exam was supposed to be held in August,” the official told.
He said they were not sure whether second admission session will be conducted this year or not. The move has put the outgoing college students at the receiving end as their three year graduation course will be extended up to 5th year if their degree won’t get completed this year.
“The students are the worst hit of the prevailing uncertainty, our career is at stake. Students in other states complete graduation in three years, but our four years have been already consumed and we are not still sure if it will be over this year,” Sadia Shabir, a college student told.
The delay in holding 5th and 6th semester exams has put the students in a state of despair. “We are completely disturbed and are subjected to mental trauma. Our time and career is getting waste,” she said.
A top KU official meanwhile acknowledged the delay in completion of UG degree of 2016 batch of outgoing college students and told that the varsity has started preparation for holding 5th and 6th semester exams.
“We are doing our bit to safeguard the career of students but we are not certain whether we will succeed. The prevailing uncertainty has badly hit the education sector,” he told. He said exams will be held only after normalcy returns in Valley. (KNO)
