Sopore Councilor Masrat Kar Tuesday urged administration to issue adequate protective equipment to sanitation workers of Sopore in order to safeguard them properly.
“With a surge in number of COVID-19 cases in Kashmir, the sanitation workers have been left particularly vulnerable with no proper gears and with no incentives. Despite working tirelessly, the sanitation workers of Sopore have not received adequate protective equipments,” Kar said.
She said that while as other frontline warriors have been included in the list and they are being provided with incentives, the sanitation workers don’t even receive incentives for working in these tough situation at a time when their families and children are at a recieving end.
“Sanitation workers have very little choice but to continue working throughout this pandemic, and they do so with little reward and often with none of the protective measures they need to keep them safe and healthy. Most of the workers are without the necessary tools, uniforms, emergency kits and health insurance,” she added.
Masrat warned the administration that lack of protection for sanitation workers could also increase the spread of the virus and can effect their efforts to keep the society safe and clean.
It is pertinent to mention here that the sanitation workers at Sopore are working tirelessly day in and out in order to keep the town clean. Hence it is the duty of administration to at least provide them with emergency kits, proper uniform on weekly basis and help their families to survive by providing the incentives.
