Srinagar—The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, said on Monday that self-help groups are playing a vital role in the empowerment of women.
As per the Kashmir Despatch Correspondent, the LG, after attending the women’s food mela at the iconic Dal Lake in Srinagar, said that this initiative is providing an excellent platform for rural self-help groups and artisans to demonstrate their products, develop ties with buyers, and learn about design, packaging, and social media advertising.
He said the government has taken several initiatives to help women entrepreneurs scale up their businesses and provide opportunities to link with the global market.
Mission Director, Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKRLM) Indu Kanwal Chib, in a chat with Kashmir Despatch last week, said that a “national level fair” called Saras Ajevika “Kashmir” is an event that will provide a platform for the participants to sell and promote their self-made products and create marketing linkages with the various selling platforms, she said.
She said this mela aims at facilitating and motivating the beneficiaries of self-help groups (SHGs) supported by the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development to exhibit and sell their products at a national level event, and it also aims to provide them with an opportunity for additional income, exposure, and interaction on a large scale.
