Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir – Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh has hailed the impact of sports in the union territory, stating that it has become a “game changer” for the youth.

DGP Singh’s comments follow similar remarks made by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, who recently stated that sports have replaced stone pelting in the region.

Speaking to Kashmir Despatch reporter at a function in Srinagar, Singh noted the increased participation of youth in various sports, highlighting the positive impact it has had on the community

“Today, there is an atmosphere of peace in schools and colleges, and everywhere, students are focussed on their studies and are also participating in sports activities,” he said.

The police chief said that today’s youth are exhibiting maturity and taking careful steps towards their future by prioritizing education and career prospects.

He highlighted their achievements, noting that young people are not only excelling in sports but also performing exceptionally well in competitive exams.

The top police officer said that in building a brighter and better career for the youth, a peaceful atmosphere will be further strengthened in the UT so that the youth can go miles apart and achieve their goal.

Reacting to the militancy, Dilbagh said that the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir is declining with each passing day.

“With the cooperation of the local people and the proactive approach of security forces, the graph of militancy is declining with each passing day, and the remaining will be wiped out soon.”

Last month, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and I&B, Anurag Singh Thakur said that Jammu and Kashmir has achieved remarkable gains in sports in just three years.

He said that every district of Jammu and Kashmir has an indoor stadium, and every village has a playground now.

“Football, wushu, and other sports are now practiced in places where stone pelting used to occur. This is how the new Jammu and Kashmir appears , ” Thakur said.
