SRINAGAR, Nov 28: The Department of Posts, J&K Circle, launched a captivating three-day state-level philatelic exhibition at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) today. Brig K Bhardwaj and Col Vinod Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, inaugurated the event, showcasing an extensive collection of 50,000 postage stamps and philatelic wonders.
During the inaugural session, a special cover featuring Ghanta Ghar Lal Chowk took center stage, commemorating Srinagar’s journey to becoming a Smart City and recognizing the iconic importance of Ghanta Ghar in Kashmir’s rich history and culture.
In a departure from tradition, this exhibition aims not only to display but to ignite a passion for philately, particularly among the youth. Philatelic kits made their way into the hands of school children, accompanied by engaging seminars and workshops led by industry luminaries.
The exhibited collection serves as a visual narrative of India’s history, culture, art, and heritage, featuring scented stamps from India Post and rare vintage stamps dating back to the 1800s and 1900s. Philately is portrayed not merely as a hobby but as a sovereign pursuit, offering a profound connection to history, culture, art, and nature.
During the inaugural session, Col Vinod Kumar underscored India Post’s role in financial inclusion, urging the youthful crowd to embrace philately for its educational and monetary benefits. Commissioner SMC, Shri Athar Aamir Khan, echoed this sentiment, extending an invitation to Srinagar Smart City residents to immerse themselves in this visual feast.
The spotlight turned to “My Stamp,” adding a personalized touch to the affair. Col Vinod Kumar presented a Chief Guest with a stamp allowing customers to imprint images on selected template sheets featuring postage stamps.
The exhibition, open to the public from 11 AM to 4 PM, promises a cultural and educational extravaganza, unveiling the allure of stamp collecting and its transformative impact on individuals. With doors open until November 30, the public is encouraged to embark on a fascinating journey through the captivating realm of philately at SKICC.
