Uri: A funds embezzlement scam has surfaced in the office of Block Development Office in Uri area of north Kashmir in which funds have withdrawn in favour of blue eyed people instead of the deserved benefeciers.
Locals have expressed strong resentment against the officials of Rural Development Department for resorting to fraudulent means while drawing money for various works under MGNREGA.
A local Mithoo Deodar told this reporter that last year he was alloted work for constructing a path for which the cost was estimated Rs. One Lakh but even after completing the works now after four months the department has not paid the amount to the labourers. And instead the amount had been fraudulently diverted in the accounts of unknown persons.
Another person from the area also complained the same about the construction of a drain and the the amount has been issued in favour of unknown persons.
Similar complaints were received from the residents belonging to Nambla, Gharkote, Gawalta, Ahsham, Adoosa, Daradkote, Chakra, Gawalan and adjacent villages in which people have expressed anger about the felay in the funds for various works under MGNREGA.
Block Development Officer Uri Mohammmad Shafi when contacted Kashmir Despatch said that cognizance has been taken into the complaints recieved and strict action will be initiated against those found guilty. He said the pending disabilities will be cleared in a couple of days.
