Sopore : Scores of people on Monday evening staged candlelight protest at Iqbal Market Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district in solidarity with the eight-year-old nomadic girl Asifa, who was first raped and then killed in Rasana, Hiranagar village of Jammu’s Kathua district.
The protesters carrying banners and placards with Asifa’s picture chanted government and anti BJP slogans.
Protestors while raising slogans demanded punishment for the perpetrators of the heinous crimes.
They said the candlelight march was aimed to draw attention to violence against women all over the world, adding, the modesty of women should be respected in all ways no matter which place.
Speaking on the occasion Advocate Musaleen told that “It is not an agitation but a peaceful candlelight march through it we appeal Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti to intervene and ensure that killers of Asifa are handed down the death sentence.
The protests in solidarity with Asifa are being closely followed by all over the world by holding rallies and conferences to draw attention to violence against women all over the world.
