Launches Jammu Academic Club to Advance Radiographic Excellence

SRINAGAR, Nov 12: In a landmark event celebrating the 129th anniversary of the discovery of X-rays, the Indian Society of Radiographers and Technologists (ISRT) marked World Radiography Day 2024 with the launch of the Jammu Academic Club, an initiative aimed at advancing radiography knowledge and enhancing professional skills in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event took place at Hotel Ishant in Vijaypur, bringing together radiographers and radiological technologists from prestigious institutions like AIIMS Jammu, GMC Jammu, as well as participants from regions like Rajouri and Doda.

The launch ceremony was inaugurated by Dr. Khanak Nandholia, Assistant Professor of Radiodiagnosis and Imaging at AIIMS Jammu. In his keynote address, Dr. Nandholia applauded the unwavering commitment of the radiography community to academic and clinical excellence, underscoring the critical role of continuous education in enhancing patient care. “As technology advances, so must our knowledge and skills,” he noted, highlighting that lifelong learning is essential to providing optimal healthcare services.
The event featured an impressive panel of speakers, including Dr. Shivam Kumar RSO, Dr. Sheetal Sharma RSO, Mr. Ashwani Sr. Tech from AIIMS Jammu, and Mr. Shabir Ahmad Sheikh Sr. Tech from GMC Jammu. They shared insights on the rapidly evolving field of radiography, focusing on new technologies, regulatory advancements, and the expanded roles that professionals are undertaking to meet the demands of modern healthcare.
Mr. Bilal A Dar, Regional Coordinator of ISRT North West, emphasized the impact of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP) Act, 2021, in establishing uniform curricula and supporting career advancement for radiographers and radiological technologists. He acknowledged the contributions of government entities, particularly the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Honorable Prime Minister, in supporting allied health professionals. He noted, “The Jammu Academic Club will serve as a hub for updating knowledge on trending medical technology, fostering professional collaboration, and ultimately improving patient care.”
ISRT Spokesperson Miss Syed Nahida highlighted both national and international academic initiatives spearheaded by ISRT, including the establishment of ISRT Academic Clubs and the Indian College of Radiological Technology (ICRT). She presented these clubs as critical platforms for advancing skills among technologists, students, and radiographers, building a community of informed and skilled professionals in the radiology field.
The event also welcomed ISRT India’s General Secretary, Mr. Suresh Malayath, who shared notable achievements by ISRT at national and global levels. He extended gratitude to the Government of India for the recent launch of the NCAHP web portal, which, he explained, is a significant step toward raising standards in allied health professions across the country.
President of ISRT, Mr. Mohanlal Bhagwat, commemorated the history of radiography and X-ray discovery. Reflecting on the journey of radiology, he emphasized ISRT’s commitment to advocating for curriculum development, welfare initiatives for radiology professionals, and the advancement of the field to better serve healthcare needs.
Public Relations Secretary ISRT, Mr. Commander Daniel KJ, encouraged both professionals and students to actively contribute to the ALARA Radiographers Magazine by submitting research articles and case studies, fostering a culture of continuous learning and best practices.
The organizing team for the event included a dedicated group from ISRT J&K Chapter, with notable contributors from AIIMS Jammu, GMC Jammu, and the State Cancer Institute. Members included Mr. Abid A Khanday, Mr. Sheikh Umer Rashid, Miss Sabrat Mushtaq, Mr. Wahid, Miss Indu Padmani Singh, Miss Shaina Sharma, and Mr. Ayush from AIIMS Jammu. Leaders from ISRT Srinagar Academic Club also played a key role, with Chairman Mr. Gayasudin Teli, Vice Chairman Mr. Bilal A Allaie, Joint Secretary Mr. Zahid Hamid from SKIMS Bemina, and Treasurer Mr. Wajid from the private sector, discussing the importance of work-life balance for healthcare professionals working in high-stress environments. They highlighted that prioritizing mental and physical well-being is essential to delivering high-quality patient care and reducing burnout.
As the event concluded, Mr. Abid Ahmad Khanday from AIIMS Vijaypur delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, extending appreciation to all attendees and acknowledging the support of the Hotel Ishant management for hosting this milestone celebration. The establishment of the Jammu Academic Club marks a significant step forward in ISRT’s mission to foster growth, knowledge sharing, and excellence among radiographers and radiological technologists in Jammu and Kashmir.
