New Delhi: Tirur is presently being served by 90 train services including 20631/20632 Mangaluru Central-Thiruvananthapuram Central Vande Bharat Express, inter alia providing connectivity to cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, etc. To facilitate the passengers of Tirur, stoppage of 22475/22476 Hisar-Coimbatore Express has been provided at Tirur w.e.f 28.01.2026. Further, 16329/16330 Nagercoil-Mangaluru Junction Amrit Bharat Express (with scheduled stoppage at Tirur), has also been introduced w.e.f 27.01.2026.

Besides, provision of stoppages of train services depends on the traffic justification, operational feasibility including availability of extra time on the section & availability of matching infrastructure such as Platform length etc.

Angamali – Sabarimala New Line Project

Angamali – Sabarimala  via  Erumeli  new  line  project  was sanctioned in 1997-98 on 50:50 cost sharing basis. Work on Angamali-Kaladi (7 Km) and long lead works on Kaladi-Perumbavoor (10 Km) was taken up. However, further works on this project could not be taken forward due to protests by local people against land acquisition and fixing of alignment of the line, court cases filed against the project and inadequate support from the Government of Kerala. Accordingly, the project was kept under abeyance in Sept, 2019.

Subsequently, to provide connectivity to Sabarimala Shrine, a survey on alternate alignment i.e. Chengannur – Pamba (75 Km) new line was also carried out. However, the project was not found feasible.

Meanwhile, the estimated cost of the Angamali – Sabarimala  via  Erumeli  new  line  project was updated at ₹3,801 crore and submitted to Government of Kerala for the acceptance of the estimate and willingness to share cost of the project.

In August 2024, the Government of Kerala communicated their conditional consent. Government of Kerala was requested by Railway to submit unconditional consent for sharing the cost.

Then the Minister of Railways requested the Chief Minister of Kerala to acquire land using their share of 50% of the cost of the project. Once land acquisition by State starts, work can proceed further.

Now, on the request of Ministry of Railways, the Govt. of Kerala has initiated land acquisition proceedings and the Angamali – Sabarimala new line project has moved forward. Ministry of Railways is following up the land acquisition process with Govt. of Kerala.

Budget allocation in the recent years has increased significantly. Budget allocation for infrastructure  projects  and  safety  works,  falling  fully/partly  in  the  State  of  Kerala including Angamali – Sabarimala project is as under:-

Period Outlay
2009-14 ₹ 372 crore/year
2025-26 ₹3,042 crore  (more than 8 times)

New Delhi: To extend the rail connectivity of existing  Srinagar – Baramulla section, a survey for Sopore to Kupwara (34 km) New Line has been sanctioned and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared. However, the project has been dropped because it was found to be infeasible. To further improve rail connectivity, in the Border region, the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of following projects have also been prepared:

After preparation of DPR, sanctioning of project requires consultation with various stake-holders including State Governments and necessary approvals viz. appraisal of NITI Aayog, Ministry of Finance etc. As sanctioning of projects is a continuous and dynamic process, exact timelines cannot be fixed.

Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project of total length 272 Km has been recently commissioned. USBRL project covers the districts of Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Srinagar, Anantnag, Pulwama, Budgam and Baramulla of Jammu and Kashmir.

The USBRL project has made substantial socio-economic contributions to the region, with employment generation being a significant aspect of its impact. The project has generated more than 5 Cr. man-days of employment.

Another crucial facet of the USBRL Project’s socio-economic development efforts has been the construction of over 215 km of approach roads, which include construction of a tunnel and 320 small bridges. This road network has helped the local population in improvement of their connectivity with other areas and also improvement in socio-economic states.

With the all-weather, reliable and comfortable rail connectivity of valley portion with rest of the Indian Railway network, tourism will get a big boost.

This information was provided by the Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & InformationTechnology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.

Hamida Jan Visits Aloosa After LG Assurance on Fire Station, Slams Bandipora Legislators

KD Correspondent

Bandipora, Feb 7: Political and social activist Hamida Jan on Friday visited Aloosa tehsil in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district following the Lieutenant Governor’s assurance to establish a Fire and Emergency Services station in the area, a long-pending demand of local residents.

Aloosa, one of the largest tehsils in the district, has remained without a fire service facility for decades, forcing residents to rely on distant stations in Bandipora and Sumbal during emergencies. The delayed response has repeatedly resulted in major losses, with several houses and shops gutted in fire incidents over the past few years.

During her visit, Hamida Jan met affected families and local delegations, who highlighted how the absence of a nearby fire station has left them exposed to disasters. She said the LG’s assurance has revived hope but warned that promises must translate into action on the ground.

“Announcements alone will not save homes. Aloosa needs a fully functional fire station with manpower and equipment,” Hamida Jan said, urging the administration to expedite land identification and staff deployment.

She also said she would continue to raise the voices of poor and marginalized people.

Criticising Bandipora legislators, Hamida Jan alleged that local representatives remember people only during elections. “Poor residents are used as a vote bank and then forgotten once the elections are over,” she said.

Locals appreciated her intervention. “Our area keeps suffering while our representatives chase fame. Hamida Jan came here to listen,” said Abdul Rashid, a shopkeeper.

NC-centric budget offers nothing to common people: Sunil Sharma

LoP says budget ignores daily wagers, unemployed youth, capital expenditure, alleges funds diverted to NC legislators

Jammu, Feb 6: Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Friday criticised the budget presented by the National Conference-led government, alleging that it was “centric to the MLAs of the National Conference” and had nothing to offer to the common people.

Speaking to reporters outside the J&K Assembly, Sharma said the budget failed to address key public concerns and accused the government of diverting funds meant for development.

“This is a budget for the MLAs of the National Conference. This is a budget centric to the National Conference. There is nothing for the common masses in this budget,” Sharma said.

He alleged that funds requested from the Centre had been shifted to NC legislators. “Only the money requested by the Indian government has been shifted to the MLAs of the National Conference so that the looting continues. There is nothing for the common masses,” he said.

Raising concerns over daily wagers, Sharma said the government had failed to come up with a concrete policy for their regularisation. “There was a big joke played with daily wagers. For the last one-and-a-half years, they were given only toffees and lollipops. Today, their faces are exposed. There is no concrete policy in phased manner,” he said.

Questioning the government’s claims on phased implementation, he added, “What is phased manner? This was going on during the LG’s time and also during previous governments.”

Sharma further said the budget did not address the long-standing issues faced by daily wagers regarding wages and job security. “How long will you keep daily wagers between Rs 70,000 and Rs 1,00,000? This is not a concrete policy,” he said.

On employment, Sharma accused the government of failing to fulfil its promises. “You had said that in 180 days, jobs would be given to unemployed youth. There is no progress in this budget,” he said, adding that many aspirants were waiting after completing coaching while their age limits were increasing.

He also raised objections to the outsourcing of jobs, alleging a lack of transparency and merit. “There is no concern about merit. Omar Abdullah picks up 24,000 jobs and gives them to a company. These jobs are outsourced. There is no interview, no application form, no return,” Sharma said.

Claiming that deserving candidates were being ignored, he said, “The one sitting on merit will have to give exams again. How will he go ahead? To give jobs to relatives, all orders will be issued.”

Calling the budget anti-people, Sharma said capital expenditure had not been mentioned. “Capital expenditure is not mentioned anywhere. This is a totally anti-public, anti-people budget,” he said.

Referring to power subsidies, Sharma alleged the government had misled people. “Around 8.5 lakh families are registered here. Last year also, they were made fun of. Yesterday, they said this was their cleverness. The electricity was being given by the Indian government,” he said.

He also questioned the government’s approach towards economically weaker sections and poor families. “Where will BPL go? Where will EWS go? Where will the poor go?” Sharma asked.(KNS).
