Rift In J&K Congress Over ”Martyrs” Day” Issue

0

A rift has emerged within the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Congress over the ”Martyrs” Day which is commemorated every year on July 13 in the Valley.

The rift came to the fore with senior state Congress leader Saifuddin Soz on Thursday slamming his party colleague Vikramaditya Singh for his “obnoxious remarks” on the developments that took place in 1931 and wrote to Rahul Gandhi, demanding his expulsion from the party.

He was referring to a tweet by Vikramaditya Singh, son of veteran Congress leader Karan Singh and grandson of the last Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Hari Singh.

“Martyrs” Day should be honoured for those thousands of heroes who have sacrificed their lives for our Nation. On 13th July 1931, plunder, loot & rape by criminals & jailbreakers in Srinagar city was put to an end. It is a blot on J&K that this is glorified as State Martyrs Day,” Vikramaditya, a former member of the Legislative Council, tweeted five days back.

On July 13, 1931, the government headed by Hari Singh had crushed a protest in Srinagar, in which 22 people were killed.

Soz, former state Congress President, reacted sharply to Vikramaditya Singh”s tweet.

“Vikramaditya Singh”s obnoxious remarks regarding the martyrdom of innocent Kashmiris massacred by Dogra Army on 13th July, 1931 deserves strongest condemnation,” said Soz in a statement.

“The right course for this sick mind is to travel to Nagpur and beg for the membership of RSS and find balm to his sick mind, there,” Soz said.

The former Union Minister said he had written to “Congress President” Rahul Gandhi “strongly against” Vikramaditya Singh and “asked him to see such a sick mind out of the Congress party”.

He insisted that “no condemnation” would be enough to “save the Congress cadres from the bad impact of these remarks”.

“I have further argued with Rahul Gandhi that it would be inviting trouble for the party if such a person continues to be in the Congress nourishing the RSS ideology,” Soz added.(IANS)

Delay in health insurance scheme for Govt employees, pensioners worrisome: Qayoom Wani

0

Srinagar, Jul 18 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Ab Qayoom Wani showed serious concern over the delay in implementation of health insurance policy in favour of government public sector pensioners and temporary employees which was in vogue last year and has been stopped reasons better known to government but the employees are the worst victims due to non availability of the said scheme and many poor employees have lost their breath due to non availability of health insurance scheme and could not afford sky touching cost of health care.

He assured the employee delegation that PDP leadership will take up this issue with Governor administration especially with chief secretary BVR Subramanyam.

PUF will review the New Pension Scheme, scrap SRO 202

0

Srinagar, Jul 18 : In an announcement with far reaching consequences, Peoples United Front Spokesman today said that if elected, the PUF Government will scrap the New Pension Scheme and strengthen the social security net for state government employees and members of three All India Services, IAS, IPS and IPS, posted to J&K.

As per the NPS, employee contribution from salary is matched by an equal contribution by the Government and at the end of the service the employee gets pension from this fund which is managed by a central pension fund authority.

However, over the years there has been a serious lack of clarity as to the amount and duration of pension employees will get in future and employee associations have been complaining that NPS has compromised their social security.

Peoples United Front Spokesman asserted that thousands of employees appointed after 2010 have approached the party with the request to take steps for revocation of NPS in its current format.

“It was in this backdrop and after detailed consultations with employee associations that PUF decided to take a stand on this and the step is expected to give hope of safe future to thousands of employees who are giving their best for the welfare of this state,” the statement reads.

“Not only the state government employees but members of All India Services also who are serving in J&K will be benefitting with this initiative. All India Services pay rules are there but it’s the state government which pays their salaries so a mechanism will have to be found to ensure at-par treatment.”

Officers from outside the state have often complained about lack of proper housing and education facilities for their families in the state and this needs to be addressed.

“It will bring back the dignity to government service and raise the morale of government employees,” the spokesman said.

“We have to create more jobs in private sector. But we can’t make the government sector less attractive by denying the social security to employees. Pension has to be there. If we want youth to prefer private sector because of dearth of jobs in government service, we have to first create adequate employment opportunities there,” added the spokesperson.

“J&K has not seen adequate industrial development and private sector investment over the years. Government is therefore the biggest employer. But when SRO 202 was brought in it was a serious injustice with youth who wanted to get government employment. There are better ways of fiscal prudence than denying the educated youth their right to dignified livelihood and cutting their salaries below the minimum wage and taking away the pension. Scrapping SRO 202 will be a part of this dignity initiative,” reads the statement.

PUF will massively focus on ‘livelihoods’ for all to tackle the rising unemployment and give social economic and political justice to people of J&K.
